In today's modern times, slimming and weight loss is a regular part of life, and slimming clubs are a great way to gain support and motivation from like minded individuals to lose weight sensibly and effectively.
Slimming clubs offer support from people in similar situations trying to lose weight or maintain a healthy body weight by dieting and exercising regularly. There are major organisations such as the world renowned Weight Watchers, and other clubs such as Tesco Diets, Slimming World, Scottish Slimmers and the Rosemary Conley slimming and fitness clubs.
Different clubs offer different ways of losing weight, such as special menus, using a points system based on calories and saturated fats. Some offer programmes of special diets combined with exercise, and others offer information and guidance on how to cook a healthy meal, and how to choose healthy and nutritious products from the supermarkets.
The power of most groups comes from the level of counselling that they can provide and emotional support, and useful information.
Tesco Diets provides members with a range of diets to suit your life style, such as a low GI diet, low carbohydrate diet, vegetarian diet, well being diet, or even diets to suit your health, for example; diabetic diets, gluten free, low salt, and high fibre diets and more.
Weight Watchers work with members to choose a healthy and reachable target weight. Once this target is reached, the member starts a maintenance programme in order to maintain their goal weight. During this maintenance period, if the member stays within two pounds of this goal weight, they then become a Lifetime member of Weight Watchers.
The Slimming Club Scottish Slimmers helps members lose weight sensibly and healthily which they say can be achieved through following their Positive Eating Plan which enables you to lose weight and stay slim without feeling deprived or isolated. The Positive Eating Plan recognises and understands that once in a while you should be able to enjoy a treat or two and the occasional special meal without having to feel guilty.
The Super Slim Slimming Clubs offer members information on the principles of dieting, instructions on how to diet, and several different diets to follow according to what it is that you want from your decision to lose weight, for example steady weight loss, fat busting diets or vegetarian diets for example.
Slimming World is a Slimming Club that takes members through image therapy and teaches members to love the way they look and feel good about their body through healthy eating with lists of 'free' food which is unlimited so you need never be hungry and has no bans on food so you can still enjoy the foods you love whilst still being able to lose weight.
Foods can be split into 3 categories using a dieting pyramid; food to eat, foods to enjoy, and foods to avoid. To aid in slimming and weight loss, the foods to avoid are sugars, butter, cream, oil, nuts and fried foods. The foods to enjoy in moderation are things like cheese, meat, eggs, fish and milk. The last category is includes; vegetables, rice, potatoes and fruit.
When dieting however, it is important to remember that 30 minutes a day of exercise will help burn those calories even more effectively than dieting alone. The exercise itself does not have to be too taxing, a brisk 30 minute walk will be just as good as a 30 jog. The aim of a brisk walk is to get your heart rate up, move your arms along with your legs to speed up your pace. If you've got a light sweat on your forehead you're doing it right!
Whichever Slimming Club and diet you decide to join, the most important thing is to get the right one for you. If you are depriving yourself of something you crave it will only make you want it more. Aim for the diet that works around your lifestyle and the exercise that you can fit into your daily routine.
